Document: Using the best fit parameters obtained from the procedure outlined in the Supplementary Information B.2, we sought to predict the effectiveness of several social distancing strategies on mitigating the severity of the pandemic. To this end, we expanded the SEIRD model to directly capture the effects of a proportion of the population adhering to the social distancing guidelines, see Eq. (A.2). Mathematically, this involved first stratifying the susceptible, exposed, and infected compartments of the SEIRD model, Eq. (A.1), based on social distancing behaviour. The resulting system of coupled ODEs was solved numerically using Euler's method with a time step of 0.1 days, to obtain the temporal evolution of each population compartment over the relevant time period.
