The general dynamics is captured in the socalled SIR model, with S = susceptible, I = infected, and R = recovered (Kermack, McKendrick, and Walker 1927; R. M. Anderson and May 1979) . Every time a susceptible and an infected person meet, there is a probability that the susceptible person becomes infected. Some time after the infection, the person typically recovers.
