Introduction – The Evolution of This Book

This chapter introduces this book with a transcribed conversation among the three editors—Gayle Gliva-McConvey, Cate Nicholas, and Lou Clark. During this dialogue which took place on Friday, June 7, 2019 in Orlando, Florida the night before the start of the 18th annual Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) Conference, they discuss why they wrote this book together and how they hope readers will benefit from this volume. They share what they have learned from the 2-year journey of collaborating with one another and the many contributors who have shared their time, talents, and selves in the making of this book. Following the conversation, highlights from each chapter are provided to assist the reader when reading this book. The span of topics ranges from a historical perspective in Chapter 3 on how a revolution took hold to a futuristic reimagining of the SP Methodology and profession in Chapter 17 to the reimagined methodology that is Human Simulation online in Chapter 18.
