    Document: Objectives: To characterize the effectiveness of the multimodal strategy to control an outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 in the emergency department of a highly complex hospital in Santiago, Chile. Method(s): Descriptive cross-sectional study, case definition corresponded to workers of the Emergency Service with a positive PCR for SARS-CoV-2 in the study period (15 workers), 60% were doctors. The factor associated with the transmission was contamination in social spaces (Physicians Room and / or living room due to clinical, social and food registration activities) and low adherence to Hand Hygiene (HM) measures, use of personal protection (PPE), droplet and contact precautions. Measures implemented, reinforcement of safe behaviors in personnel (use and location of PPE), social distance, fulfilling the occupations defined for common spaces;Use of a permanent mask;cleaning and disinfection of the workplace (before each use);defer coffee hours;PC installation outside of attention box. Result(s): On May 16, the primary case was recognized, pick on May 25 (46.6% of cases), ending on May 27, 2020, cases and contacts (20 officials) were sent home. The cases were divided into 1 administrative, 1 nurse, 9 doctors, 4 paramedical technicians. 100% of PCs were installed out of the box;Training coverage on safe measures 100%. Adherence during the pre-intervention period for HM 73.5%;droplet and contact precautions 60%;Installation of 88% EPP and removal of 79% EPP. After the intervention, adherence to HM 88.5%;Precautions according to transmission route 100%;installation of PPE 95.5% and removal of PPE 97%, no new outbreaks in service have been observed to date. Conclusion(s): The multimodal strategy fulfilled the objective of controlling the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic outbreak in the emergency department.Copyright © 2020
