Document: To address these and other questions, we developed a mathematical model to study the effects of social distancing on the spread of SARS-CoV-2, with an emphasis on the policies implemented in Canada as a focused example. First, using publicly-available data from several online repositories along with machine learning techniques, we fit the temporal evolution of infection counts, total deaths, and total recoveries in 80 different countries to an SEIRD infection model. These fits provided insight into the biologically and socially-relevant parameter ranges for the model. Next, we sampled these parameter ranges to simulate the dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 spread in provinces within Canada using the Distancing-SEIRD model developed in this work. Finally, we studied the disease outlook and the burden on the medical system for different social distancing strategies.
