Since IL-6 level is associated with clinical worsening in COVID-19 patients, anti-IL-6 therapy is seen as a promising treatment. Tocilizumab, a widely used IL-6 antagonist, was approved by the FDA in 2017 for Cytokine Storm Syndrome (CSS). Its addition to the treatment in COVID19 patients with increased blood IL-6 levels and oxygen saturation.
