Collaboration between health regulators, government bodies, clinicians and academics in tandem with the streamlining of difficult bureaucracy has led to accelerated set-up, and delivery, of high priority research. During COVID-19, the NHS Health Regulations Authority (HRA) and Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) introduced fast-track application reviews for new COVID-19 related studies and/or study amendments, with the HRA approving applications as fast as 72 hours, a process that could previously take up to 60 days1,2 .
