In 2016, the Chinese State Council directed the Ministry of Health to promote family medicine and extend its availability to the whole population by 2020. The outbreak of COVID-19 has reinforced the need for the availability of qualified GPs in all parts of the country. Through the efforts of the various individuals and teams, the role of the general practitioner has been widely acknowledged in China.
