Snippet: In this work, we present 3-dimensional virtual histological imaging of a single gross sample of lung tissue taken from a COVID-19 victim at the time of autopsy. This sample is from one of an initial series of African American patients reported from University Medical Center, New Orleans. 3 That report was notable for its findings of small vessel thrombi and microangiopathy with hemorrhage significantly contributing to death. Document: In this work, we present 3-dimensional virtual histological imaging of a single gross sample of lung tissue taken from a COVID-19 victim at the time of autopsy. This sample is from one of an initial series of African American patients reported from University Medical Center, New Orleans. 3 That report was notable for its findings of small vessel thrombi and microangiopathy with hemorrhage significantly contributing to death. The purpose of this work was to leverage tissue clearing and high-throughput light sheet microscopy, combined with fluorescent H&E-analog stains and pseudocoloring, to provide additional insights in support of earlier findings.
