Also, if two patients are connected to one ventilator source, gas volumes will be distributed according to the potentially different respiratory system mechanics of both patients. A treating therapist has neither knowledge about the tidal volume received from each patient, nor on the individual patient´s compliance since the variables displayed at the ventilator would only address the data for the combination of both connected patients.
