Document: The first paper, by Chaolin Huang et al. (Huang 2020) , was published online on February 15th 2020 and reports a cohort of 41 patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Patients had serious, sometimes fatal, pneumonia and were admitted to the designated hospital in Wuhan, China, by Jan 2, 2020. The study shows that the time between hospital admission and ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) was as short as 2 days and that at this stage the mortality rate was high (15%). Also, the Authors recommend that faecal and urine samples should be tested to exclude a potential alternative route of transmission.
