Together with our previous results (Kuang et al., 2018; Li et al., 2008) , AS is discovered to not only inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokine release during hyper-inflammation stage but also enhance pro-inflammatory cytokines release and bacterial clearance by macrophages to reverse sepsis-induced immunosuppression in vivo and in vitro, demonstrating that AS exhibits an immunoregulating effect for sepsis treatment, which is not reported previously.
