There are evidences that shows Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) binds to human angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) to infect the cells (90) which being highly expressed in lungs and heart. Therefore, virus binding to ACE2 causes activation of renin-angiotensin system and its complications including hypertension, heart failure and atherosclerosis (89, 91 , 92) as we resulted in our meta-analysis. These data could suggest a reason for high prevalence of hypertension in our pooled estimate.
