Document: In order to assess the potential RNA virus landscape of A. californica, every available RNA resource at NCBI was employed for virus discovery. 117 RNA NGS libraries, of diverse studies, target organ/tissue/cell, origin or developmental stage, encompassing over 164.54 gigabases were explored. The raw reads were downloaded and subjected to de novo assembly with Trinity v2.6.6 release or the CLC genomics workbench v8.0.3 assembler into library specific transcriptomes which were further subjected to bulk BLASTX searches (E-value < 1e-5) against a local database of refseq virus proteins. The obtained hits were explored by hand.
