Impact of COVID-19 on psychiatric assessment in emergency and outpatient settings measured using electronic health records

The cohort included all individuals seen in outpatient visits or emergency rooms across 2 academic medical centers and 3 community affiliate hospitals between January 2, 2019 and March 25, 2020. Narrative clinical notes for all visits were extracted from the electronic health record serving all of these sites. Sociodemographic data including age, sex, race, and ethnicity were also drawn from the electronic health record. Presence of a coronavirus test was determined from the enterprise laboratory feed (LOINC:94309-2). All data were extracted from the Partners Research Patient Data Registry 11 and managed as an i2b2 datamart. 12 The Partners HealthCare Human Research Committee approved the study protocol.
