Document: We fitted univariable GAM to the measured log-titers on the participants' age at baseline sampling (i.e. participant age when serum was collected at baseline sampling) and age at isolation [i.e. participants' ages when strains were isolated; (4)], respectively to examine the strain-independent age patterns of HAI titers ( fig. S1 ). The relationship between age at sampling and HAI responses varied across strains ( fig. S1 A and B) . However, we found consistent patterns in the relationship between participant age at isolation and HAI responses, particularly the age at isolation for strains against which people have the highest titers (fig. S1 D and E). Median participant age at the time of isolation of strains to which they had the highest HAI titers was 4.3 years (IQR: 2.0 to 6.9 years across strains). As age at isolation increases, titers decrease rapidly until 20 years of age.
