Document: is the (which was not peer-reviewed) The copyright holder for this preprint . https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.04.12.20059709 doi: medRxiv preprint v/v ethanol solution, then allowed to air dry for 2.5 hours until the weight had stabilized. The original dry weight of the masks were 9.88g (A) and 15.46g (B). Soaking and then air drying increased that weight of the masks to ~20.6g (A) and ~22.8g (B). The masks were then pumped on and removed at intervals to record the masks' mass and efficiency. As the mass of water in the mask decreased, the mask's efficiency increased. Post-rinsing efficiency prior to vacuum treatment for the respirator in (A) was not measured and for (B) was 75.2% at 1000 mBar. This confirms the hypothesis that the mass of adsorbed liquid is adversely influencing filtration efficiency.
