Snippet: Recently, Rickhag et al. [23] demonstrate in a rat model of stroke that apoD is significantly elevated in the peri-infarct area during the recovery period. It is suggested that upregulated apoD production serves the function of transporting cholesterol and phospholipids, a remodeling process that is required for the recovery of brain injury. Document: Recently, Rickhag et al. [23] demonstrate in a rat model of stroke that apoD is significantly elevated in the peri-infarct area during the recovery period. It is suggested that upregulated apoD production serves the function of transporting cholesterol and phospholipids, a remodeling process that is required for the recovery of brain injury. Likewise, high apoD protein levels are found in patients with failing hearts, compared with non-failing control subjects, raising the possibility that apoD is potential biomarker in human end-stage heart failure [24] .
