Document: Following the above research, E. arborea purified six phlorotannins (6,8'-bieckol, 8,8 '-bieckol, phlorofucofuroeckol-A, phlorofucofuroeckol-B, eckol, and 6,6'-bieckol,) were administered orally to mice initially, who were then evaluated for inhibitory effects of the compounds on swelling of the ears. To determine the suppressive ability of phlorotannins, a cultured mast cell model using RBL-2H3 cells was evaluated against the release of histamine, leukotriene B4, or prostaglandin E2 including their mRNA expression and the activity of COX-2. Eckol and 6,8 -bieckol suppressed degranulation at a concentration of 100 µM in RBL cells, compared with epigallocatechin gallate. As a result, all the phlorotannins showed potent inhibition with 6,8'-bieckol, 8,8'-bieckol, phlorofucofuroeckol-A having the highest activity [70] .
