Commercial multiparameter human sera were used to calibrate the machine and to act as controls (Calibrator and Control Serum, Ben Srl, Milan, Italy). Plasma albumin concentration was measured by spectrophotometry using BCG colorimetric method (previously validated for bovines) [20] on a Cobas Mira Classics Roche automated chemistry analyzer (Roche S.p.A., Mannheim, Germany; within-run precision 1.65%; between-run precision 0.96%) with 10 L of plasma.
