Artesunate interacts with Vitamin D receptor to reverse mouse model of sepsis-induced immunosuppression via enhancing autophagy

BALB/c mice (sex: half male and half female; weight: 18 -22 g; age: 6 -8 weeks) were obtained from Beijing HFK Bioscience (Beijing, China) and housed in a pathogen-free facility with a 12-h artificial light-dark cycle in the Third Military Medical University. All the mice were provided with food and purified water ad libitum. There were no more than 5 mice in each cage. All animal care and experimental procedures were conducted were approved by Laboratory Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee of the Third Military Medical University (AMUWEC2020015). Animal studies are reported in compliance with the ARRIVE guideline (Kilkenny, Browne, Cuthill, Emerson, Altman & Group, 2010) and with the recommendations made by the British Journal of Pharmacology.
