High Influenza A Virus Infection Rates in Mallards Bred for Hunting in the Camargue, South of France

This study has been submitted for approval and the results reviewed by the Scientific Council of the Tour du Valat Foundation. Birds were handled, ringed and sampled under the supervision of a veterinarian (Michel Gauthier-Clerc) and a registered duck ringer of the « Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle » of Paris (Matthieu Guillemain). All procedures were carried out in accordance with the permit delivered by the prefect of Paris to the « Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage » (permit n 2009±014). (Table 1) . Samples were stored in 3 ml of universal transport medium (Biolys kit) and frozen at 280uC until molecular analysis was performed.
