Using the same lentiviral transduction system, primary macrophages that were isolated from the peripheral blood of an LDLR-KO pig were successfully immortalized, suggesting that this protocol could be used to immortalize primary porcine macrophages. Since the IPKM retained the characteristics of primary macrophages, this cell line could be used to develop in vitro cellular models for studying genes associated with innate immunity in swine and porcine pathogen infection processes.
