In DNA vaccine, since the delivery of DNA is a major hurdle, DNA carrier system using bacterial, viral or non-viral vectors, as well as the cell specific targeting ligands, which are discussed above, are also considered as DNA vaccine adjuvants. The summary of DNA vaccine adjuvants being investigated are shown in Table 2 . In this section, proteins and other macromolecules with immunopotentiating properties but are not directly involved in the delivery of DNA are discussed, especially those that are commonly employed for intranasal vaccination.
