In this paper we compare a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling approach using a time-resolved Large Eddy Simulation method (LES), to measurements obtained from a full-scale mock-up with identical geometry, to determine, whether CFD is an accurate and robust alternative method for understanding and characterising the flow behavior leading to possible containment failure. To this end we also introduce methods to produce CFD-simulated smoke videos that are easily comparable to those produced experimentally in the same experimental scenarios.
