Snippet: The QS system regulated by acyl-homoserinelactone (AHLs) is a standard mechanism most commonly employed by Gram-negative bacteria species. AHLs, also known as autoinducer-1 (AI-1), are molecules composed of a lactone ring and an aliphatic chain whose length and nature may vary for different species [145] . The LuxI/LuxR protein system controls this type of communication [146, 147] . A LuxI protein synthesizes an acylated homoserine-lactone (AHL) .....
Document: The QS system regulated by acyl-homoserinelactone (AHLs) is a standard mechanism most commonly employed by Gram-negative bacteria species. AHLs, also known as autoinducer-1 (AI-1), are molecules composed of a lactone ring and an aliphatic chain whose length and nature may vary for different species [145] . The LuxI/LuxR protein system controls this type of communication [146, 147] . A LuxI protein synthesizes an acylated homoserine-lactone (AHL) using the substrate S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and an acylated acyl-carrier protein (acyl-ACP) [148] AHL molecule, which starts the quorum sensing circuit, generally diffuses freely across the cell envelope and accumulates in the local environment [149] . When an adequate level of AHL is reached, it is recognized by a LuxR protein that results in the activation of related genes [129, 146] .
