Document: Effects of recovered EVD patients practicing protected sex on the epidemic trend of EVD Ebola virus is detectable in the semen of recovered individuals and can be transmitted through sexual contact [21] . Although sexual transmission is not the major route of transmission for EVD, it can still impact the epidemic trend. If recovered patients practiced protected sex using a condom, then the number of EVD cases is reduced and the peak of the epidemic curve is advanced (Fig 4D) . The dynamic model indicates that if all recovered individuals had practiced protected sex from August 1 st of 2014 onward, then the number of EVD cases at the peak of the epidemic curve would have been reduced by 26% and occurred 19 days earlier.
