We also examined whether RNA disruption reflected the sensitivity of cells to various drugs (previously measured using the clonogenic assay). In addition, we explored the origins of the rRNA fragments and the temporal relationship between the induction of apoptosis by docetaxel, as measured by enhanced caspase activity and annexin V staining, and RNA disruption. Finally, we show that inhibition of caspase-3 activity reduces, but does not eliminate, RNA disruption in response to docetaxel.
