This observation is in line with the finding that cynomolgus macaques experimentally infected with the Makona strain of EBOV (i.e. EBOV2014) showed delayed disease progression compared to animals inoculated with EBOV1976 [74] . Collectively, these findings highlight that filovirus GPs can differ markedly in their capacity to mediate entry into cell lines of various species. This finding reflects the diverse nature of the different filovirus species that, despite their taxonomical relatedness, may engage certain host cell-encoded entry factors with different efficiencies.
