Document: In light of these limitations, this study provided an initial, exploratory examination of the various viral, bacterial, and parasitic agents prevalent among febrile patients in our study area and offered a highly sensitive diagnostic methodology for broad-spectrum consideration of disease etiology. This pilot survey provided a baseline for the scale-up of a subsequent yearlong surveillance study to further explore seasonality of illness over a longer time period, with a more robust sample size. The subsequent longitudinal study will further allow our study team to conduct needed epidemiologic analysis to evaluate factors associated with infection status.
