Title: Evaluation of the Replication, Pathogenicity, and Immunogenicity of Avian Paramyxovirus (APMV) Serotypes 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 in Rhesus Macaques Document date: 2013_10_10
ID: 0littefv_12
Snippet: Adult rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) were obtained from Morgan Island. The animals were confirmed to be seronegative for APMV serotypes by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and plaque reduction assays. The rhesus macaques (4 animals per virus) were infected by the combined intranasal and intratracheal routes using a 1 ml inoculum per site containing 10 6.0 PFU per mL of the indicated virus, as described previously [47] . Document: Adult rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) were obtained from Morgan Island. Nasal washes (6 ml/animal) and fecal swabs (4 ml/animal) were collected daily on days 0-10, 12, and 21 in phosphate buffered saline (PBS). Bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL; 10 ml/animal) were collected on days 2, 4, 6 and 8 in PBS. Tracheal lavages (3 ml/ animal) were collected on days 10, 12 and 21 in PBS. All samples were snap-frozen on dry ice and stored at -80u C until analyzed. Serum samples were obtained on days 0, 21 and 28. Clinical observations were performed daily for 28 days after the inoculation.
