Title: The discriminative capacity of soluble Toll-like receptor (sTLR)2 and sTLR4 in inflammatory diseases Document date: 2014_11_19

Document: In the present study, we demonstrate that sTLR2 and sTLR4 are released in-vitro and in-vivo after challenge with microbial ligands such as LPS. Significantly elevated plasma concentrations of sTLRs are present in the circulation during experimental human endotoxemia, and high circulating concentrations of sTLR4 are found in patients with infections compared to patients with non-infectious inflammation, as well as in patients with bacterial infections compared with viral infections. However, the value of sTLR2 and sTLR4 as additional diagnostic biomarkers is low as both new markers do not surpass CRP in accuracy.
