    Document: In 2006, an unparalleled large-scale outbreak of highly pathogenic PRRS (HP-PRRS) occured in many areas of China. This outbreak affected more than 2 millions pigs and produced approximately 0.4 million fatal cases [10] . In this study, laboratory infection was performed in Tongcheng piglets (a Chinese indigenous breed living in Tongcheng county of Hubei province) using PRRSV stain WUH3 [11] , a highly pathogenic PRRSV isolated in China during the pandemic period of HP-PRRS in 2006. We also employed Affymetrix microarrays to investigate the gene expression patterns of PAMs isolated from the piglets after infection. The current study aims at better understanding the interaction between HP-PRRSV and the host PAMs, which may lead to the identification of key host factors for tolerance/susceptibility to the virus and the finding of novel targets for antiviral therapies.
