We found that in all but one species, bats possess and express a tetherin protein homologous to the long isoform of human tetherin (l-tetherin). In addition, we found that P. alecto expresses three isoforms from a single tetherin gene, and that vesper bats (genus Myotis) encode five, and possibly as many as seven, distinct tetherin genes.
