Each laboratory should define their work areas but, in general, four different work areas are recommended: a reagent preparation area to prepare PCR master mix, a sample processing area where different procedures are performed (like nucleic acid extraction), a target loading area where the specimen is added to the PCR master mix and an amplification area where thermocycling and probe detection is performed.
