Document: The lack of replication-competent virus in saliva, urine, feces or peripheral blood satisfied Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) concerns regarding potential shedding, and enabled initiation of a clinical trial utilizing Maraba virus to treat cats with mammary cancer. In this trial a heterologous prime:boost strategy targeting tumour antigens will be tested. Introduction: Canine hemangiosarcoma is a highly malignant tumor, which is associated with poor long-term survival due to the development of early and widespread metastatic disease. Currently, little is known regarding the biology of canine hemangiosarcoma, and the mechanisms accounting for the highly metastatic nature of the tumor are poorly understood. In humans and rodents, monocytes have been shown to play key roles in metastasis through promotion of tumor cell extravasation, seeding, growth, and angiogenesis, as well as suppression of anti-tumor immunity. However, there has been little investigation into the role of monocytes in canine tumor metastasis. Therefore, we investigated the potential role of monocyte infiltration in the regulation of tumor metastasis in dogs.
