    Document: In conclusions, the mitral valve of dogs with MMVD loses the saddle shape as the mitral valve disease progresses. The results of this study suggested that as the severity of MMDV worsened, more mechanical stress would be placed on the mitral valve, which could increase the progression of mitral regurgitation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report about the morphological changes of mitral valve annulus according to disease severity in dogs with MMVD. Oxidative stress has been associated cardiovascular disease and suggested to contribute to cardiac remodeling in human patients with mitral regurgitation. Few previous studies have evaluated the relationship between oxidative stress and myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs. The objective of this study was to determine plasma concentrations of certain markers of oxidative stress and investigate if they were associated with MMVD severity, selected clinical variables and disease progression in dogs with no or different severities of MMVD.
