Document: We conclude that experimentally induced clinical mastitis facilitated the absorption of cefquinome from the mammary gland of lactating goats. High performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) techniques are currently preferred for determining withdrawal times for meat and milk after treatment; however, HPLC methodologies can be complicated and expensive and are susceptible to interference from matrix effects. Development of an alternative analytical methodology that is simple and inexpensive, such as an agar diffusion microbiological assay (MA), would be advantageous. The objective of this study was therefore to compare MA with HPLC in determining the cefquinome concentration in plasma and milk.
