Snippet: Twenty dogs (10 males, 10 females) that underwent castration/ovariectomy were randomly assigned to furosemide (FUR) (4 mg/kg) or placebo treated group (PLC). Dogs were premedicated with morphine (0.3 mg/kg sc), anesthesia was induced with midazolam (0.1 mg/kg iv) and propofol (3-4 mg/kg iv) and maintained with sevoflurane in oxygen. Document: Twenty dogs (10 males, 10 females) that underwent castration/ovariectomy were randomly assigned to furosemide (FUR) (4 mg/kg) or placebo treated group (PLC). Dogs were premedicated with morphine (0.3 mg/kg sc), anesthesia was induced with midazolam (0.1 mg/kg iv) and propofol (3-4 mg/kg iv) and maintained with sevoflurane in oxygen. Thereafter dogs were instrumented with pulmonary artery and dorsal pedal artery catheters. Dogs were treated with Lactated Ringers solution during anesthesia (5 mL/kg/h iv). Baseline (BL) arterial and mixed venous blood were sampled just before treatment with FUR or PLC and then at 15, 30 and 45 minute posttreatment. Cardiac output (Q), pulmonary artery (PAP) and mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) were measured. Transvascular fluid fluxes in pulmonary circulation were calculated from changes in plasma protein, hemoglobin, hematocrit and Q values. Variables were analyzed using random intercept mixed model (P < 0.05) Data are expressed as means with 95%CI.
