Accurate diagnosis of hypoglycemia is helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of ketosis in periparturient dairy cattle. The Precision Xtra Ã’ meter uses methodology that assumes intra-erythrocyte glucose concentration ([glucose] e ) and plasma glucose concentration ([glucose] p) are equivalent and that the hematocrit (Hct) is the typical value for human blood (0.43). The objectives of this study were therefore to determine the accuracy of the Precision Xtra Ã’ meter for measuring [glucose] p in blood or plasma from dairy cattle, and to determine the influence of Hct on the measured [glucose] b .
