Our study revealed some variation in the coagulation factor content of LR FFP, however these changes were considered unlikely to influence the efficacy of canine FFP for factor replacement. Transfusion trials of LR FFP are warranted to assess its benefit in reducing adverse transfusion reactions in dogs with coagulopathies. The Dal blood type is a high frequency antigen associated with the production of anti-Dal antibodies, which may result in ineffective transfusions or in hemolytic transfusion reactions. As for most DEA, testing for Dal remains dependant on the availability of polyclonal anti-Dal antibodies obtained following sensitization of a Dal-negative dog. In the literature, little is known on the time-course of antibodies post-transfusion, which led to the present study.
