Formation of 43S and 48S complexes was performed in the presence of [ 35 S]-Met-tRNA i Met or [ 32 P]-labeled MVHLstop mRNA, respectively, and the assembly reactions were fractionated by sucrose gradient centrifugation to monitor the distribution of the radioactive components.
